A group of Grade 11 students at the Oakville high school at 1550 Nottinghill Gate, organized the event to engage Grades 7 and 8 students from Oakville and Burlington elementary schools in friendly competition in April. Fourteen teams, comprised of four students each, were tasked with answering a series of challenging questions that tested both their collective knowledge as well as their teamwork skills. Questions covered topics across their curriculum in mathematics, science, religion, English, history, geography, and physical education. "It was a wonderful opportunity to see young people inspired to give back to the community and create an event that focuses on our youth," said Richard Harder, a teacher at St. Ignatius of Loyola. "It was definitely volunteerism at its finest." Mother Teresa Elementary School Grade 8 students Lucas Cisnero, Daniel Rodriguez, Christopher Academia and Evan Figueroa took home gold medals while Pope John Paul II Elementary School Grade 8 students Kristoffer Cruz, Finlay McMullen, Tommas Meeussen and Ralph Ramos each received a silver medal. St. Matthew Elementary School Grade 7 students Cecilia Vicini-Ronchetti, Gaetano Peritore, Taylor Toris and Julia Lisboa were awarded with gold medals while their fellow classmates Amy Vermeeren, Olivia Gawronska, Nicole Milling and Karolina Suszek earned silver.
