www.insideHALTON.com | OAKVILLE BEAVER | Thursday, November 21, 2013 | 4 Kerr Village Find Yourself in Friends remember Alex Tughan by David Lea Oakville Beaver Staff Friends of the late Alex Tughan, 22, are remembering the Oakville man as an amazing snowboarder, a creative skateboarder and someone who was always there to listen when those he cared about needed to talk. Katie Kittan, who set up a Facebook memorial page for Tughan, said the former White Oaks Secondary School student was the man fatally shot by Halton police on Oak Springs Road Sunday night. Neither Halton police nor Ontario's Special Investigations Unit (SIU) have released the name of the deceased. "He was a really good person. He was friends with everyone," Kittan, who attended White Oaks with Tughan, told the Oakville Beaver. "He had some hard times, but he always had a smile on his face and was happy. He was funny, he was a daredevil. If you wanted to know who Alex was you'd find him wear- Alex Tughan | photo from Facebook ing one of his beanie hats or wearing his hat sideways and holding a skateboard -- doing crazy tricks. You'd always see him around the school with his skateboard." Photos posted by friends on the memorial page feature Tughan at various stages of his life from his teenage years to the recent past. In some photos, he can be seen flying over snow-covered hills on his snowboard while others show him walk- ing along a beach and smiling while holding his young nephew. Kittan said she lost touch with Tughan after high school, but caught up with him in September. "He was doing pretty good. He told me he had been working full time," said Kittan. "When I talked to him last, he was telling me he was going to possibly join the army so he could save up and move out West. He said he wanted to open his own snowboard shop. He told me that was his dream." Tughan's snowboarding and skateboarding adventures were widely discussed by those who posted on his memorial page. Others remembered jumping off the roofs of houses into pools with Tughan much to the chagrin of his parents. Still others remembered how Tughan went above and beyond for those he cared about. see Tughan on p.8 Please bring a new, unwrapped toy to one of the merchants listed below between December 1st and 21st.
