Despite strong play by Medford and Zack Moll down the stretch, Blakelock was able to put King's away. "After that first set, we felt more comfortable," Stojanovic, a Grade 11 student who plays club volleyball with Mississauga's Pakmen. "Basically, we just stayed on point after the first set." After surrendering the first point, Blakelock never again trailed in the second set as it rolled to a 25-18 win. Led by some strong attacks by Medford, King's took the first four points in the third set. Blakelock would overcome the deficit with a five-point run that featured a pair of service aces by Stojanovic that put the Tigers up 11-8. After falling behind by as much as six, King's worked its way back to 17-15 but strong blocking by Estey and Capstick shut down the Cavaliers attack and two more aces by Stojanovic helped close out the 2517 clincher. Despite the win and an undefeated season, Blakelock's season is over. Meanwhile, King's Christian will face Hamilton's Académie Catholique Mère-Teresa today (Thursday) with the winner advancing to the provincial single-A tournament. Taekema and co-coach Mike Schenk said having to play larger schools (Blakelock is a triple-A school) throughout the season benefits the Cavaliers when it comes time to play schools their own size. King's went 9-3 in league play this year despite being the only single-A school. "Usually when we play bigger schools, they have three or four club players so they have a great team game," Taekema said. "For us to be able to rise to the occasion against them, it allows us to develop and gives us confidence."
