Eric's Amazing Race still racing to fight Duchenne muscular dystrophy Nov. 2 After more than 10 years, Eric's Amazing Race is picking up speed as it fights muscular dystrophy. The annual car rally scavenger hunt has raised $152,000 for Jesse's Journey and Duchenne muscular dystrophy research. This year is the 11th annual Eric's Amazing Race, Car Rally and Silent Auction to be held Saturday, Nov. 2. The car rally starts in Burlington at Bruce T. Lindley School, 2510 Cavendish Dr., and concludes at the Waterdown Legion, 79 Hamilton St., in Waterdown, Ont. Participants will drive around approximately two hours and 50 kilometres in Burlington, Dundas, Ont., and Waterdown looking for clues to their final destination. Eric's Amazing Race is organized by Ted and Heather Lindsay in honour of their nephew Eric Morden, 13, of Oakville, who was diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy at age two. According to the Muscular Dystrophy Canada website, the condition is an inherited disorder, commonly in boys, where muscles become weaker with age. The body can't produce a muscle protein called dystrophin, making muscle cells weak and they gradually break down. All proceeds go to Jesse's Journey, a charitable organization that raises funds for research into Duchenne muscular dystrophy. The cost to participate is $10 per person. The silent auction includes more than 200 items 15 | Friday, October 25, 2013 | OAKVILLE BEAVER | www.insideHALTON.com including hockey tickets, sports memorabilia, dining gift certificates and more.
