www.insideHALTON.com | OAKVILLE BEAVER | Thursday, October 17, 2013 | 14 Halton Regional Police Service OMHS wants bins removed The Oakville & Milton Humane Society (OMHS) is cancelling its paper-recycling program at the end of this month. According to a news release issued by OMHS, the east Oakville shelter will be removing the three large paper-recycling containers at the end of its driveway at 445 Cornwall Rd. because it has been unable to get the bins emptied in a timely fashion. "We receive a modest donation from the company in return for having the bins on our property and filled with recyclable paper by the public," said Kim Millan, OMHS executive director. "Unfortunately, our ongoing challenge in having the bins emptied has led to our decision to remove the bins from the shelter property." The paper recycling program will cease at the end of October. OMHS says it will still have a need for newspapers for use in the shelter and a large newspaper bin will be placed by its front doors to accommodate donations. Metal for Mutts and Meows "We hope the people of Oakville and Milton will continue to bring their newspapers to help us care for the more than 6,000 animals that will need our help this year," Millan said. The shelter's Metal for Mutts and Meows metal and electronics-recycling program will also continue and OMHS encourages the public to bring in any metal or electronic items -- such as old lawn mowers, barbecues, computers, etc. -- and place them in the large metal bin located in the driveway. "Fall is an excellent time to de-clutter and we can certainly use that old lawn mower, barbecue or computer that is taking up space in your home, to raise money to help our animals" said Millan.
