With Town of Oakville support, the Oakville Minor Baseball Association (OMBA) is looking to next season despite being thrown a curve ball. In August, police were called to investigate a complaint made by OMBA president Dave Fulton about financial discrepancies at the not-for-profit, volunteer-run organization. As of Tuesday's press deadlines, police had not laid charges. Funds lost have included permit fees owed to the Town of Oakville for the 2013 season. "Our collective goal is to ensure the more than 700 youths registered with the OMBA will have the opportunity to play ball next season. And they will," said Oakville Mayor Rob Burton. Last month, council authorized staff to negotiate deferred payment terms with the OMBA for its outstanding 2013 unpaid permit fees. Town offers support to OMBA To help offset costs for next season, the OMBA is also investigating additional sponsorship and fundraising opportunities. "We have taken clear and immediate steps to secure our financial resources and to restore trust to our members. We want nothing more than to keep this league thriving for the kids," said Fulton. On Wednesday, Oct. 23, the OMBA will host its annual general meeting to review last year's financial statements and provide an update on the organization's ongoing financial operations.
