Winston passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Friday, October 11, 2013 at the age of 72. Winston will be greatly missed by his true love of 45 years, Dianne (Collier) Shalton. Adored and loved by his children Derek and Linda, Karen and Shawn, Lisa and Corey, Michelle and Shen, Todd (predeceased) and Laura. Pre-deceased by her loving husband of almost 65 years, Dennis. She was the last surviving member of the pioneering McNee Muskoka farming family of Raymond. Mom finished her high schooling in Bracebridge, received her R.N. in Orillia, and rose to be Night Supervisor at Orillia Soldiers Memorial Hospital. After the war, she married Dennis, moved to Oakville and raised three children in the houses that he built. She also had time for volunteering as a Cub Scout and Girl Guide leader as well as being active in sewing, weaving and knitting circles. When Dennis retired, they were finally able to travel to all the places that they had read about and to revisit the sites where Dennis had been during the war. Pre-deceased by husband Dennis, brothers Kenneth and Douglas, she leaves three children: Michael (Mary), Stephen (Lynn) and Alison Denise (Burkhard); five grandchildren: David (Alison), Kenneth (Rachelle), Laura, Catherine and Jesse; and three great grandchildren: Sebastian, Cora and Ethan. A graveside service will be held at the Ullswater Twsp. Cemetery on Wednesday, October 16th, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. Followed by a reception at the Raymond Hall. She was surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with cancer. Beloved wife of 52 years to Ted, loving mother to Scott (pre-deceased), Pamela and Jill, sons-in-law Geof Goebel and Andrew McFarland and wonderful Nana to grandchildren Regan, Lucy, Quinn and Hayden. Predeceased by her parents John MacLeod and Anna Cecilia (Swanson) and brother John (Laurie), she is survived by her sister Diane Hesse (Stuart) of Georgetown. She is also survived by loving in-laws, nieces and nephews. Mable led life with 2 clubs every time. She lived life on her own terms, embraced each challenge with fierce determination and always cheered for the underdog. She started her career as a Nurse in Vancouver, B.C but also worked locally at South Peel, Queensway and O.T.M.H. Years later, she began a new career as an Early Childhood Educator and worked at St. Hilda's, New Horizons and Creative Learning Centre pre-schools in Oakville. Her gentle spirit and progressive approach gave many young children a wonderful start in life. Mable was a founding member of Glen Abbey United Church. She embraced her faith as an ongoing debate to be questioned and validated and welcomed discussion from anyone. She was no shrinking violet to political exchanges either. As an avid bridge player, she cherished her time with her bridge ladies. She traveled the world but loved being at home with her family the most. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Drs. Pyle and Benjamin, and the staff at Ian Anderson House. Everyone's compassion was greatly appreciated and will never be forgotten. With respect to Mable's wishes, cremation has taken place.
