continued from p.1 "We help people who have had strokes. They come to Family Golf, we have a golf cart to take them to covered tees, we have volunteers to look after this, they have storage areas for our cart and special equipment. I, as treasurer, can assure you this costs the community nothing," said White. "We are most anxious you give very serious consideration to the application and approve it as made because we need the covered tees, we need the storage area. It is very important to the continuation of our charity." Challenge Golf participant and board member Danny Foran also called for the establishment of the golf course, stating Challenge Golf allowed him to continue to experience the game that he loves following his own stroke. The organization should have a place to continue its work, Foran said. "What has Challenge Golf done for me and for many other stroke survivors? It has given us a renewed purpose in life and helped us be part of a thriving, active Oakville community," said Foran. "For myself, Challenge Golf demonstrated other stroke survivors were out there trying their best at swinging golf clubs, making me want to do the same." Foran said about 315,000 Canadians are living with the effects of a stroke making it essential for facilities like the one proposed to be allowed to move forward. Charity component of golf course plan garners favour Not everyone was happy with the golf course idea as several Burnhamthorpe Road West residents spoke against it. Angela Deganis commended the work Family Golf does with outreach programs and charity groups, but reminded council Family Golf is a business and should be viewed as such. The resident argued the proposed area is not the right place for a golf course, stating the facility would replace a considerable amount of land currently used for growing crops. Water supply for the site, the displacement of wildlife, and traffic levels were other concerns expressed. "The anticipated number of cars visiting this business during their peak season is approximately 300 cars per day," said Deganis. "That's 300 going in and 300 coming out and they will be using a road that is in very poor repair and has no traffic lights. We feel the road cannot support this." It was also pointed out the property is considered part of the Parkway Belt and while low-density recreational development is permitted, Deganis noted this project could be precedent-setting and may encourage additional development. Burnhamthorpe Road West resident Adriana Birza said living next to a golf course is something she did not sign on for when she purchased her home. "We bought this property, like most of our neighbours, because we like a lifestyle that is geared toward protecting nature and towards living in nature," she said. "While it is commendable all the charity work Family Golf is doing, we feel our lifestyle will be interrupted and disturbed." Oakville resident Diane Burton said it is ridiculous the Town is considering giving 5 | Wednesday, October 2, 2013 | OAKVILLE BEAVER | www.insideHALTON.com permission for the development of a new golf course when Deerfield Golf Course is currently threatened with closure to permit a residential development. Town staff will take all these comments into consideration as they decide whether to recommend the development move forward. A date was not given on when that report would be forthcoming. Shhhh... It seems this is a problem that is increasing but it can be treated if caught before it is too late. The main issue if you feel you suffer from any form of tooth wear is protection and prevention. If your tooth wear has been diagnosed at an early stage you can concentrate on preventing further tooth wear with diet modification, protective dental appliances and some limited dental bonding to restore the small areas of attrition or erosion. If tooth wear has progressed to the point that your protective enamel has been worn away and you have exposed your inner dentin you will likely need a more comprehensive solution. The pictures included are an example of a patient with severe attrition, erosion and bite collapse that I solved with a full mouth rehabilitation using porcelain restorations.
