www.insideHALTON.com | OAKVILLE BEAVER | Thursday, September 19, 2013 | 32 S M A R T P H O N E Oakville Half Marathon returns this weekend at Coronation Park Coronation Park will once again be the start venue for this year's Nutrience Oakville Half Marathon, which takes place Sunday. Races in this year's event include the Nutrience Half Marathon, the 10K, the 10K Student Relay and the Whole Foods Market 2K Fun Run/ Walk. The 10K runs will begin at 7:30 a.m., followed by the half marathon at 7:40 a.m. and the 2K run/walk at 7:45 a.m. Local residents make up approximately 40 per cent of the field, which continues to grow each year. Runners and walkers from across the Greater Toronto Area and the province are also expected to participate, as are athletes from the United States, United Kingdom, Italy, Bermuda and Switzerland. After beginning at Coronation Park, the route for 10K and halfmarathon races will continue east on Lakeshore Road until the south side of Suffolk Avenue. At that point, half marathon participants will continue east to Morrison Road, loop around and join the 10K course once again on the north side of Suffolk Avenue. The courese will then travel west on Rebecca Street, south on Jones Street and east back to Coronation Park where it will merge with the 2K loop within the park boundaries. A Runner's Expo will be held Saturday at Coronation Park from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Participants in the Nutrience Oakville Half Marathon are required to pick up their race kits at this time. The Nutrience Oakville Half Marathon's charity partners this year include the Colorectal Cancer Association of Canada, Oakville Hospital Foundation, YMCA of Oakville, Kerr Street Ministries, Reach for the Rainbow, Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of Canada - Halton Chapter, CameronHelps, Canadian Diabetes Association, The Lighthouse Program for Grieving Children, The Arthritis Society and the Oakville Literacy Council. Participants are encouraged to raise money for one or several of these charities. They can also collect pledges for a charity of their own choosing. Jones finished 19th overall after posting a time of 1:50:06. Spain's Javier Gomez won the race in a time of 1:48:16. Next year's World Triathlon Series grand final will be held in Edmonton.
