"In keeping with JCHAC's vision, to support community art by exhibiting local artists, we are pleased to launch Josef Petriska, Artist, Sculptor and Nature's Voice," said Sybil Rampen, JCHAC founder. "This exhibition is the opportunity for the community to renew their love and appreciation for such an extraordinary man." Petriska, an internationally-renowned sculptor and artist, will be at the Centre on Sunday (Sept. 15) from 2-5 p.m. Known for his sculptures, reliefs and paintings, Petriska's exhibition will feature nearly 30 pieces from his collection. The Oakville resident earned national notoriety following an appearance on the TV show The Nature of Things, which depicted the creation of his famed piece, Struggle for Survival. The sculpture depicts a bird, dying from pollution -- a nod to his environmental beliefs. Petriska's work will be on sale at the event, and a portion from the sales will be donated to the new Oakville hospital. Andrew Wyeth, Robert Bateman and members of the Group of Seven have all exhibited alongside Petriska. Learn more at www.joshuacreekarts.com. For more news, visit www.oakvillebeaver.com.
