www.insideHALTON.com | OAKVILLE BEAVER | Friday, September 13, 2013 | 16 OMHS is still rescuing cats The Oakville & Milton Humane Society (OMHS) continued yesterday to remove cats from a Halton Hills house -- a week after obtaining a warrant to remove cats from the single-family home. Most of the felines were removed Sept. 5 by the OMHS' Animal Protective Services team led by OMHS Manager of Protective Services and OSPCA Agent Officer Laura Mackasey. The humane society, which serves north Halton, was alerted to the house by an anonymous tip from a member of the public who believed there may be as many as 200 cats at the address. "The verified count of cats removed to date is 106 live cats with one cat transferred to the shelter today. There were an additional 10 deceased cats in the house, which were discovered on the first day of the removal" said Brenda Dushko, OMHS spokesperson. "The most fearful and timid cats were able to find places to hide in the house," said Dushko, noting humane traps were set and the OMHS returns to check the traps several times daily. The society will continue to monitor the home until certain all cats have been removed and are in the care of the OMHS. Charges will be laid under the OSPCA Act once all of the cats have been removed.
