Money stolen from Shakers meant for ILC fundraiser by David Lea Oakville Beaver Staff 7 | Thursday, August 29, 2013 | OAKVILLE BEAVER | www.insideHALTON.com Money raised for an ailing woman's essential medical treatment was stolen and an ATM broken into at Shakers Tap & Grill, 580 Kerr St., over the weekend. Sometime between Friday evening and Saturday morning, thieves gained access to the restaurant, possibly by hiding until the business closed for the evening, according to Halton police. An ATM inside the eatery was pried open and the money taken. The intruders also stole a metal cash box, which contained thousands of dollars in ticket sales for a fundraising event run by the Improving the Life of Children (ILC) Foundation, which will be held at Shakers on Sat- urday, Sept. 14. The event is being held for the restaurant owner's wife Joanne Cerasani, 38, who is living with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS) an inherited connective tissue disorder. A brochure about the fundraiser explained that Cerasani's condition has deteriorated and efforts to find a medical facility in Canada that can help her have failed. The fundraiser is intended to provide Cerasani with enough money so she can seek treatment in the U.S. Police said the restaurant does have a video surveillance system, however, it was partially disabled by the suspects and it is unclear at this time if any images were recorded. The fundraiser is moving forward and runs from 2-8 p.m. Tickets to the event cost $20 each. Each ticket purchased will be entered into a draw to win one of several door prizes including a three-day trip to Las Vegas. Tom Barlow, Gord Depp, Marshal Dane, Liquid Courage, Michael Zane, Dale Roosien, Fresh and others will provide the evening's music. According to the brochure, HGTV star Mike Holmes and his crew will also be making an ap- pearance. For more information about the fundraiser or to make a donation, call 905-691-5195 or email support@theilcfoundation.org. Anyone with information about this break-in is asked to contact the Oakville Criminal Investigations Bureau at 905-825-4747, ext. 2215 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). Woman inappropriately touched while walking along trail Halton police are asking for the public's help in locating the man responsible for inappropriately touching a woman while she was walking near Sheridan College last Friday. At around 10 a.m., a 21-year-old woman was walking along a trail behind the college when a man attacked her from behind. The woman told police the man touched her inappropriately and pushed her to the ground. She fought off her attacker who then ran off. The suspect is described as white, 5-foot-4, 2530 years old with blond hair, possible facial hair, and an average build. He was wearing a dark blue plaid jacket, a hoodie and sunglasses.
