"Oakville has been very generous with donations. (It) has been really what's kept the shop going. The shop has been going on for 47 years and the chapter is 80 years old," said McDiarmid, who has been involved with IODE for 50 years. The other fundraising event held annually is the Bridge Luncheon. This year, 120 people took part and the chapter raised and donated $2,800 to Community Living Oakville. "The Bridge Luncheon first started in the late 1930s, but then it stopped. Since then it's been on and off and it's now been going on for several years," said Cook. As for the future of the Angela Bruce Chapter IODE and the Opportunity Shop, Cook said it would be nice if they could expand and "put a coffee shop in to bring more people in and have a line of people wanting to join." "We do it all for the community. All of our proceeds are fed back into the community. Everything is donated and everything is given back," said Cook. "A lot of people don't know about IODE. We don't shout it from the rooftops enough."
