www.insideHALTON.com | OAKVILLE BEAVER | Wednesday, July 31, 2013 | 24 Art in the Park at Heritage Waterfront Park Monday by Dominik Kurek Oakville Beaver Staff Thousands of people will pass through the Bronte waterfront this Civic Holiday Monday as the Oakville Art Society hosts its premier event of the summer, the 48th annual Art in the Park. The outdoor exhibit will feature art from 175 exhibitors who are coming from across the country and beyond for the opportunity to display their work at the Oakville park. Art in the Park will be held at Bronte Heritage Waterfront Park, located at Bronte Road and Ontario Street. The event runs from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. "And it's a hell of a nice day. It's a nice thing to do on a holiday afternoon," said organizer and art society director Doug McKirgan. "It's a pretty good location because Bronte is a pretty cool area. There's all kinds of nice stores. Somebody who goes to Art in the Park in Bronte can also go to all sorts of stores and restaurants, so it's a nice outing." Antonius Roberts came from Nassau, Bahamas to display his work at last year's Art in the Park. It was his rst year to do so. photo by Marta Iwanek Oakville Beaver le photo Art in the Park will feature all media, from oil, acrylic and watercolour paintings, to glass, ceramics, textiles, photography, sculp- tures and jewelry. The artworks are originals, otherwise they are limited edition, signed and numbered prints. The show is juried Advertorial and features ne art, not crafts. Visitors will have a chance to meet the artists themselves, whom McKirgan calls established, professional artists. Some are coming from as far away as Quebec, British Columbia and the Bahamas. There will be new and returning artists this year. "It's a pretty traditional way of buying directly from the artist," said McKirgan, who added people will be able to pick up good deals on art. And one of the biggest draws to Art in the Park is the choice. "It's a market. So instead of just one artist, there are 175. You can go around and see a lot of art... You're going to see a lot of choice." Art in the Park also has continuous live music on stage, put on by entertainers Tropical Daze. There is a catered beer garden that will feature beer and wine. Admission costs $5. Children get in free. Visit www.artintheparkoakville.com for more information. Beauty & Spa Now Open in Bronte! Tips for a beautiful wedding day smile (MS) - Come their wedding day, all eyes are on the happy couple as they tie the knot. This will be one of the most photographed moments in all your life, and it is customary that brides- and grooms-to-be want to look their best for their trip down the aisle, and a bright white and healthy smile goes a long way toward helping couples look their best. According to Dr. Jay Gohel, an oral health professional and expert in extreme smile makeovers, couples should schedule a professional dental hygiene appointment prior to their wedding days. During these appointments, dentists can develop a regimen that will produce the smiles couples desire for their momentous occasions. Porcelain veneers or professional whitening may be included in the suggestions to dramatically change the appearance of teeth. If your teeth aren't as white as they once were, you may be considering a whitening treatment. Many foods and beverages, such as coffee, tea, colas, dark berries, and even chocolate, can stain the teeth over time. Certain medications also may contribute to changing the surface colour of your teeth. While there are many whitening systems available at drug stores, there are bene ts to opting for a professional whitening treatment performed by a licensed dentist. For example, such a procedure is more controlled, allowing the dentist and his staff to control the strength and the placement of the whitening product. In addition, the dentist can help control discomfort for men and women with sensitive teeth. "Of ce whitening is always stronger than the at-home kits," says Dr. Gohel. In addition, an inof ce whitening treatment may be condensed and take less time. All treatments are different, but generally the whitening procedure involves taking pictures of your teeth before treatment to show the "before" and "after" results. Your dentist may prescribe a special uoride toothpaste to be used prior to the whitening procedure to reduce sensitivity. A bleaching solution is activated by a special light to promote the whitening process. The whitening sessions will be broken up into a few different visits, for a total of one hour. It is important to note that the whitening process works best on natural teeth. Crowns and bridges do not whiten the same as natural teeth because they are covered. Men and women with crowns or bridges can speak to their dentists about other options. If whitening isn't for you at the moment, there are other options. At the very least, a professional dental cleaning can be the start to a beautiful wedding day smile. "Tooth appearance can be vastly improved with a professional cleaning," offers Dr. Gohel. "The super cial stains can be removed, as well as plaque and tartar." A cleaning may also improve a couple's breath just in time for that important kiss. Looking beautiful isn't only reserved for the bride and groom. Members of the bridal party and family may also want to schedule dental visits to improve their smiles. Even those who wear dentures can bene t from a dental visit prior to the wedding. "People who wear dentures should bring the dentures in to the dental of ce," says Dr. Gohel. "(A dentist) can professionally clean the dentures and repair the denture if there are any chips or missing teeth. (A dentist) can also send the denture to the lab to see if a colour change is possible. Or (a dentist) can make a new set of dentures.".
