Visiting more than 90 communities across Canada, the 46-foot Pink Tour bus provides information on and spreads the importance of breast health and breast cancer screening and has a goal of getting more than 30,000 people to experience the tour. One-third of breast cancers are preventable and regular screening can save lives, stated a press release. "Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation is thrilled to be once again visiting over 90 communities this summer," Sandra Palmaro, CEO, CBCFOntario Region, said in a press release. "We hope that women and their friends and families stop by to learn about how they can reduce their risk of breast cancer and the benefits of breast cancer screening." The Pink Tour is scheduled to visit health centres, workplaces, markets, festivals and local Shoppers Drug Mart stores and CIBC branches -- all visitors can sign the bus and make a video pledge to improve their breast health and share what they've learned with family, friends and coworkers. In Oakville, the tour will make two stops on Friday (July 19): it will be at the Shoppers Drug Mart at 2501 Third Line, building B, from 3-4:30 p.m., then it will travel to Midnight Madness in downtown Oakville at the intersection of Lakeshore Road East and Thomas Street, from 6-10 p.m. "We are excited to be a partner on the Pink Tour for the second year to support more eligible women to be screened for breast cancer through our Ontario Breast Screening Program. It is vital for women aged 50-74 years to get regular mammograms because screening finds cancer earlier, when there are more treatment options and an improved chance of survival," Dr. Craig McFadyen, regional vice-president of the Mississauga Halton Central West Regional Cancer Program, said in the release. Visitors to the Pink Tour bus can take quizzes, use interactive videos and record personal video pledges, while women who are eligible will also be able to sign up for a mammogram with the Ontario Breast Screening Program, a program administered by Cancer Care Ontario. Women can reduce their risk of breast cancer and recurrence through diet, maintaining a healthier body weight, regular physical activity, drinking less alcohol, quitting smoking, limiting use of hormone therapy during menopause and reducing exposure to harmful chemicals at home and work, according to the release. Woman inappropriately touched on Oakville trail Halton police are asking for the public's help in identifying a suspect after a 27-year-old woman was inappropriately touched in the area of Morrison Valley Ravine early Tuesday morning. At around 2:30 a.m., the woman was walking through the trail system, located between White Oaks Boulevard and Lambeth Road, when she said a man approached her from behind. Police said the man attempted to engage her in conversation and then touched her inappropriately. The woman ran home and contacted police. The suspect is described as white, 20-23 years of age, 5-foot-8, clean shaven with short dark brown or black hair and a slim build. He wore a dark baseball hat, a long-sleeved dark shirt and pants. Police remind residents when walking they should walk with a purpose, be alert and attentive to their surroundings at all times and avoid unlit streets and shortcuts through parks and/or vacant lots.
