Oakville defeated Durham West 7-1 and Burlington 7-2 to start the tournament, then fell 4-3 to Mimico in its final round-robin contest. The Hawks bounced back to edge St. Catharines 7-6 in the semis before defeating Whitby 6-4 in the gold-medal match. "We were a pretty heavy favourite out of the West, but we were not expected to beat Whitby," Hawks head coach Mark Follows said. "We were an underdog going into the final. The kids came together as a team at the right time and they dug deep." Follows said the title atones for two years ago when, as peewee A players, the Hawks lost just one game all season but did not play for a medal. The provincial championships that season did not have a semifinal round, and Oakville was eliminated by tiebreakers. Contributing to the championship win were Dawson Garcia, Evan Mason, Marley Angus, Henry Follows, Alexander Kew, Joshua Dawick, Kyle Kennery, Nicholas Hulbert, Jack Ricketts, Kevin Dong, Harrison Clarke, Jack Howden, Harrison Rees, Jack Macdonald, Matthew Sykes, Ethan Cummings, Jacob Saunders, Bryan Watson and Phillip Mazzuca. The team is also coached by Curtis Davis, Steven Saunders and Darin Kew, with Owen Mason serving as trainer and Jane Chen as manager. Peewee D Oakville's peewee D team posted one-goal victories in both the semifinals (6-5 over the Toronto Stars) and final (5-4 over Halton Hills in overtime). Previously in the tournament, Oakville defeated Mimico 5-3 and pounded Mississauga 17-0. Members of the peewee team are Christopher Jenkins, Colin Flurey, Liam Mahoney, Zack Terry, Marco Middaugh, Mike Fabiano, Myles Newport, Jack Loucks, Lucas Hucal, Zander Alsace, Holden Hewitt, Blake Adams, Christopher Parsons, Ethan Stainton, Milan Djuric, Davis Tolnai, Nolan Power, Ben Brown, Noah Robertson, Liam Enros, Jonathan Gagliardi and David McAllister. Other results In other action at provincials, the U11 novice A Hawks reached the final before los- ing to Whitby and settling for silver, and the U17 midget A Hawks were eliminated in the semifinals. Young, Orange earn NCAA lacrosse silver Syracuse University sophomore Sean Young and the Orange earned silver at the NCAA men's field lacrosse championships Monday in Philadelphia. Syracuse, the top seed in the tournament, scored the first five goals of the final against seventh-seeded Duke but the Blue Devils stormed back with 11 second-half goals to stun the Orange 16-10 in front of 28,224 spectators at Lincoln Financial Field. Young, a defenceman who transfered to Syracuse from Towson this season, was named to the all-tournament team.
