Local firm designs new hospital medical building Local Oakville architecture firm ATA Architects Inc., along with Montgomery Sisam Architects, has been selected to design the new Oakville hospital medical building. The building will act as the gateway entrance to the new hospital currently under construction at Third Line and Dundas Street. The joint venture is part of the Torgan Group and both businesses were selected after an eight month process overseen by Halton Healthcare Services. "Alexander Temporale, principal of ATA Architects Inc., believes this state-of-the-art facility will be an architectural landmark as well as a benchmark for medical office buildings in Halton," stated a press release. The "green" building will be designed to LEED silver standards and include such features as, continuous linear windows around the building to bring daylight into offices and waiting areas; operating windows to provide natural ventilation; a twostorey atrium with a living plant wall; glass staircases; and energy-saving mechanical and electrical systems. The "user-friendly" building will be clad in two colours of clay brick, glass and aluminum and it will be connected by a covered walkway to the hospital and parking area. As well, the building will include a pharmacy, test labs, X-ray area and a coffee shop. "It is intended that the building will be available for doctors prior to the completion of the hospital in 2015 to ensure it is fully functional at the time of the hospital's opening," stated the release. "Choosing a long-term care home is often a painful and difficult decision and families and guardians want the best fit for their loved ones. The videos provide an apples-to-apples virtual tour of each facility, focusing on accommodations, features, activities and faith and language preferences," says Caroline Brereton, CEO, Mississauga Halton CCAC. And, many questions come up when selecting a long-term care home.
