Kabelik is a Sheridan College film and television production professor and a documentary filmmaker. The film is about his fellow Sheridan professor, Rafael Goldchain, a successful photographer. Goldchain's work has been exhibited in New York's Museum of Modern Art, the Canadian Museum for Contemporary Photography and at galleries around the world. The film articulates Goldchain's 30-year journey to photograph not only the world, but also his subjective relationship to it. It explores issues of family, identity, aging, memory and art. Goldchain's fascination with identity and mortality stems from his Jewish heritage and ancestors who died in the Holocaust. The photographer hopes to pass along his understanding of the complexity of Jewish identity on to his teenaged son ­ a self-described "part Polish, part Irish, part Chilean ... Jew." In the film, they travel together to Israel, and to Poland to visit the town where Goldchain's ancestors lived, as well as Treblinka, where the remaining members of Goldchain's Polish family died in 1941. The relationship between father and son, sometimes tense, is central to the film. Goldchain is currently the coordinator of Sheridan's Bachelor of Photography program. The documentary will air at 9 p.m. Learn about participating in Culture Days Do you want to participate at this year's Culture Days in September? Then, you'll need to know how. The Oakville Arts Council and the Town of Oakville are hosting a Culture Days information session tonight (Wednesday) at the Queen Elizabeth Park Community and Cultural Centre, 2302 Bridge Rd. At the event, participants will learn how to participate in Culture Days in the community. Attendees will also learn how to get involved in Culture Days at the Town-operated Queen Elizabeth Park. The annual event brings together local artists, professional and amateur arts and cultural organizations, municipal cultural staff, staff of local museums and libraries, Business Improvement Associations and local media. Culture Days is a collaborative movement to encourage awareness, participation and engagement of all Canadians in the arts and cultural life of their communities. This will be the third annual, Canada-wide celebration. The event runs Sept. 27-29 in all provinces and territories. Those who attend the information session will learn what resources are available to them, as well as tools and tips to make Culture Days activities a success.
