Consultant Pollara Strategic Insights unveiled results of the 2013 Citizen Survey Monday at Town council. Of 800 residents randomly interviewed by telephone between Feb. 22 and March 7, 87 per cent expressed overall satisfaction with local government. That's up ve per cent over 2011. The citizen's survey is conducted biannually with it costing approximately $50,000 each time. "Our goal is to ensure our residents are receiving excellent value for their tax dollars," said Oakville Mayor Rob Burton. see Residents on p.5 Oakville re ghter Kurtis Mantell runs an obstacle course in a special Fire ghter Combat Training Challenge at the Oakville Fire Training Centre Tuesday. Duracell Canada put out a call for help to the re ghters in its bid to draw attention to an online petition that asks the federal government to institute a day when all Canadians can pause and think about police, re ghters and ambulance personnel and what they do for society. "They are there for us every day in communities across the country," said Victoria Maybee, Duracell Canada communications manager. "We just want to really rally Canadians to petition for this National First Responders Day so we can say, `Thank you' and recognize the wonderful work they do for us." To help raise awareness of the petition, Oakville re ghters engaged in a day of exercises normally reserved for the Fire ghter Combat Challenges. This requires a re ghter to nish a gruelling obstacle course in the least amount of time possible.
