The Oakville facility, at 152 Wilson Street, will be open to the public from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Those attending will witness dog guides from each program -- vision, hearing ear, special skills, seizure response, and autism assistance -- demonstrate their skills, as well as tour the facilities and learn about how to foster a future dog guide. Opportunities to sign up as a volunteer will also be available. In addition, there will be a silent auction with all proceeds supporting the provision of dog guides at no cost to Canadians with disabilities. The Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides is a charitable foundation with the mission is to provide service to Canadians with disabilities in the areas of mobility, safety and independence. In addition to training dog guides for people who are blind or visuallyimpaired, the pups are also trained to meet the needs of Canadians with hearing and other medical or physical disabilities. It costs approximately $20,000 to raise and train each dog guide, yet dog guides are provided at no cost to qualified applicants from across the country. The police chorus is hosting the fundraising event in conjunction with the Circle of Harmony and Enchorus Children's Choir. Funds raised at the concert will cover the operating costs for the three groups and allow the Halton Police Chorus to continue to perform at long-term care facilities and represent Halton at police memorial services both in and outside of Ontario.
