Lovingly remembered by his cherished wife Joan ("Kitty") of 63 years to whom he was deeply devoted. Much loved father of Michael, daughters Elizabeth McDonald (Michael) and Gillian McGhie (John) all of Burlington. Stan was a loving and proud grandfather to Laura and Heather McDonald. Predeceased by his parents Emily and Arthur and sister Hilda. He will also be missed by his cat, Maggie. He leaves behind a circle of friends from his time as an advertising salesman with CHWO radio (later AM 740) in Oakville for more than 25 years (retiring only a year and half ago) and previous time spent with the Burlington Gazette and Toronto Sun newspapers. Born in Enfield, England, Stan was a member of the RAF during the Second World War and immigrated with his family to Canada in 1967. Stan was an avid golfer who had two holes-in-one to his credit (his second at age 81!) and was a passionate Tottenham Hotspurs fan. A 16-year survivor of lung and prostate cancer, Stan participated in the Canadian Cancer Society's Relay for Life's Survivor's Walk. A remembrance of his life will be held on Thursday, March 28, 2013 at Oakview Funeral Home, 56 Lakeshore Rd. W., Oakville, ON. Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. prior to the 11 a.m. service. Donations may be made in his honour to Oakville's Ian Anderson House or the Canadian Cancer Society. A special thanks to the wonderful staff and volunteers at Ian Anderson House. Until we meet again, you are forever in our hearts. SELNES, Cindy (Helwig) Cindy (Helwig) Selnes, 46, passed away with friends by her side on March 22nd, 2013 in Burlington, Ontario after a quiet battle with colon cancer and a courageous attempt to help others with the disease. She is sorely missed by her parents Winston ("Bud") Helwig and Karen Helwig, sister Sherri Helwig (Kevin Quinn), nephew Taggart Quinn, grandmother Sophie Wambold, step-grandmother Joyce Klawitter, extended family and friends near and far, and her dearly loved four-legged companions, Rosie and Diesel. Teaching was Cindy's passion. She dedicated her life to her students. Her unwavering commitment to challenge and inspire those she worked with will be her legacy. A lifetime of thanks are due to Cindy's remarkable friends who continue to show their love and support in uncountable ways, and to the kind staff at Joseph Brant Hospital and the Juravinski Cancer Centre. A strong and independent man, born in Cosenza Italy, he was the first member of his extended family to immigrate to Canada. Anna was the loving Mom of Louise Fraser and Scott McVicker and the proud Grandmother of Meagan and Shawn. She will be sadly missed by her sisters Rachel and Louie. Anna will also be fondly remembered by her lifelong best friend Sheila Kennedy. A longtime resident of Oakville Anna will be remembered by those who knew her as an energetic and determined woman who loved to walk downtown and seemed to know everyone along the way.
