www.insideHALTON.com · OAKVILLE BEAVER Friday, February 15, 2013 · 10 Make Your Move with free activities on Family Day Hundreds of free activities and events are planned at 11 municipal facilities for this year's Family Day (Feb. 18). Families are encouraged to take part in the fifth annual Make Your Move Family Day -- the Town's public education and awareness program to promote the benefits of healthy, active lifestyles and encourage residents to become more active through participation in various sport and recreational activities. "Our Family Day celebrations empower residents to get active and explore the many arts, recreation or cultural programs we offer," said Mayor Rob Burton. "Family Day was created so families can spend time together. That's why it's so great to see thousands of residents embrace this holiday and join the Oakville tradition." This year, families can take part in a variety of classes such as badminton, karate and Nia, a sensory-based movement practice that draws from martial arts, dance and healing arts. The Playford Players will be at the Oakville Museum, while select Oakville Public Library branches will be hosting Family Storytime. There's an opportunity to have a photo taken on a Zamboni at the River Oaks Community Centre, or see live exotic animals at the Sixteen Mile Sports Complex. There will also be free swimming and skating at numerous pools and arenas, thanks to a partnership between the Town and Tim Hortons. A barbecue lunch will be available for purchase from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at Glen Abbey, Iroquois Ridge, Queen Elizabeth Park and River Oaks community centres -- all proceeds will go to the Town's Recreation Connection Fund to help families in need participate in recreation programs. Other Family Day locations include: Centennial Pool, Joshua's Creek arenas, Kinoak Arena, and the Peter Gilgan Family YMCA. For a full schedule of events, visit www. oakville.ca or pick up a Family Day guide at Town Hall, local community centres and library branches, or at the Peter Gilgan Family YMCA.
