Most recently, the Ministry negotiated with CUPE and our board was not even aware the negotiations were taking place. We encourage parents to familiarize themselves with Bill 115 and to review the recent change to the Education Act, specifically Regulation 274/12, which has altered the boards' hiring practices. Regulation 274/12 emphasizes seniority, not suitability for the appointments to teaching positions. This piece has not received much media attention, but is deeply concerning to us as employers and limits our ability to hire the best person for the job of educating our students. We know how important extracurricular activities are to our students. At this time, we do not know when extracurricular activities will resume, but we continue to work with our teachers and trust that the excellent relationships between all stakeholders will be preserved. Purchasers should spend more to level the playing field than explaining why budgets are exceeded. If all the money spent cleaning and working overtime at Loyola was added to the low bid and totalled, I am sure the right bid amount would be exceeded.
