NOTICE OF A JOINT PUBLIC INFORMATION MEETING Review of the approved Burloak Regional Waterfront Park Master Plan The Regional Municipality of Halton, the City of Burlington, the Town of Oakville and Conservation Halton are holding a Public Information Meeting to invite public input into the review of the current Master Plan for the Burloak Regional Waterfront Park. This Master Plan was approved in 2002 and the Region and their municipal partners would like to solicit feedback on whether the current Master Plan reects the desired community direction or whether changes are recommended to the Master Plan prior to developing a park implementation strategy. ILC teams up with McMaster The Oakville-based Improving the Life of Children Foundation (ILC) is teaming up with McMaster University to hold a 21-day rehabilitation program for teens and children with chronic pain. According to the International Association for the Study of Pain, fiveeight per cent of Canadian children and teens live in severe chronic pain. "Peer support for adults is available but for children, it is not so easy. This has an enormous lasting impact on society," Sandy Smeenk, ILC founder and executive director, said in a press release. "Parents do not have one-on-one help with medical specialists. They do not have rehab access for their children. They often see up to 30 specialists a month and still receive no diagnosis... pain is an issue. We want to make a difference." Smeenk founded the ILC foundation after meeting Brooklyn Mills, a young Oakville girl living with corrective tissue disorder, a disease that makes the collagen in her body unable to hold itself together. "Smeenk saw the struggle the Mills' family dealt with in trying to find medical help for their daughter and decided that something had to be done to change medical attention for children like Brooklyn," stated the release. The pilot program will be held at McMaster University, while Smeenk hopes to expand to four centres across Canada -- one in the west, east, Quebec and Ontario. "We want to see ILC peer-to-peer support networks online and we hope to have at least 100 families benefitting from the program in the first year. We want to make a change," Smeenk said in the release. The ILC foundation received charitable status in February. For more information, visit www.theilcfoundation. org. Burlington East Wastewater Servicing Strategy Municipal Class Environment Assessment Study Notice of Commencement and Public Information Centre The Regional Municipality of Halton has initiated Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (EA) Study (Schedule B) for Burlington East drainage area to conrm the preferred wastewater servicing strategy. The Burlington East drainage area is generally bounded by Burloak Drive to the east, Brant Street to the west and the QEW to the north. This Public Information Meeting will be held to present background information as well as the preliminary recommended wastewater servicing strategy for Burlington East drainage area. This servicing strategy includes: a new pumping station adjacent to the existing Elizabeth Gardens Pumping Station and elimination of the existing station, a new trunk sewer and a new force main (refer to the gure below). Date: Time: Presentation Time: Open House: Place: Wednesday December 12, 2012 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. 7:15 p.m. 8:00 p.m. Hearthstone-by-the Lake (old Pig and Whistle) 100 Burloak Drive, Burlington, Ontario L7L 6P6 Tel: 905-333-9194 Note: There is limited on-site parking available at Hearthstone-by-the Lake (old Pig and Whistle). There is however public parking available within the Burlaok Regional Waterfront Park and in the Lakeside Shopping Village parking area near Hampton Heath Road to the west. Purpose and Effect: This meeting will be a joint effort dealing with two separate projects that impact the area around the Burloak Regional Waterfront Park. There will be separate presentations on both the approved Master Plan review for the Burloak Regional Waterfront Park and for the Burlington East Servicing Strategy Municipal Class EA Study. Through the latter, a new pumping station is being considered adjacent to the existing Elizabeth Gardens Wastewater Pumping Station, which is located at the north west corner of the park property. As both initiatives impact the park and the surrounding community, the Region and its municipal partners would like to hold a joint meeting so that area residents can get all the information they need on these initiatives at one time. The presentation on the Park Master Plan will provide a historical overview for the park, talk about the shoreline protection works, discuss in detail what is proposed through the existing approved Master Plan and outline the process moving forward towards full implementation. This review will help staff understand more clearly whether the current plan still reects the desired community direction or whether changes will be required to the Master Plan prior to developing a park implementation strategy. The presentation on the Burlington East Servicing Strategy Municipal Class EA Study will present the results of the Region's Pumping Station Master Plan which was completed in 2012, discuss why Burlington East drainage area is a high priority area, outline the preliminary preferred wastewater servicing strategy for the area, and seek input from the public regarding design options for the new pumping station and how it will be integrated into the community and the park.
