Now, the Sharpie/Victorian bulldog cross dog has been adopted into her new forever home in the area, the Oakville & Milton Humane Society (OMHS) announced Tuesday. Mea was found tied to a string, severely emaciated in a garage in Milton on Jan. 20, Mea finds a home for Christmas 2010. The dog was missing large patches of fur and was suffering with glaucoma in her right eye. There was no food or water in the unheated garage. OMHS officer Laura Mackasey found the dog and sought immediate veterinary care for her. "Mea's journey began in a cold, dark garage, and ended this past weekend when she was adopted into her forever home," said Kim Millan, executive director of the OMHS, in a news release. "We are so happy that we were able to speak for her, care for her and find her a new home where she will be loved for the rest of her life." OMHS canine training co-ordinator Melissa Ruf, worked with the potential adopters to ensure that it was a good match between Mea and the family. Mea's case also made Canadian case law. Mackasey laid seven counts of animal cruelty against Natasha Janjevic and Steven Lopez, who were found guilty of all charges in 2011. Janjevic was sentenced to 45 days incarceration to be served intermittently; two years probation; a 10-year ban on owning, caring for, or residing with an animal; and to surrender Mea to the OMHS. She received a $5,000 fine, plus court costs and victim surcharge. Lopez was sentenced to 30 days incarceration to be served intermittently; two years probation; a 10-year ban on owning, caring for or residing with an animal; and the surrender of Mea.
