www.insideHALTON.com · OAKVILLE BEAVER Friday, October 26, 2012 · 24 Diamond Jubilee medal for volunteer O n Friday, Oct. 19, Gerry Popp, a dedicated volunteer at United Way Oakville, was presented with the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal. The medal was created to celebrate Queen Elizabeth's 60th year on the throne. During this year, only 60,000 Canadians will be given the honor of receiving this award. The purpose of the medal is to recognize significant contributions made by Canadians to their communities. Gerry is an exceptional volunteer who is truly dedicated to the Oakville community. He joined United Way Oakville (UWO) in Gerry Popp January 2009 as a member of the Finance and Audit committee, which he then chaired for two years. He currently chairs the UWO Governance Committee and has been a member of the board of directors since September 2009. Gerry also sits on the Campaign Cabinet as leadership division co-chair. He recently retired from Grant Thornton LLP, where he was a partner for 31 years and has a FCA designation from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario. Gerry has been active in the Oakville community for 30 years. He is a pastchair of the Oakville Chamber of Commerce and current member of the board of directors. He has also chaired and co-chaired the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital Foundation Gala Committee, chaired the Oakville Awards for Business Excellence Dinner Committee and was a board member of the Canadian Rehabilitation Council for the Disabled and chaired its finance committee. Gerry has also recently joined the board of directors for the Oakville Community Foundation.
