This year's event saw local organizations share $10,500. These proceeds from the golf tournament will help support The Salvation Army, The Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital (OTMH), Oakville Symphony, Art House and RCOW's Charitable Foundation in their on-going efforts to build and sustain a diverse community within Oakville. RCOW club projects have raised over $430,000 for many local and international causes including Polio Plus, Water for Humanity and Artificial Limbs Foundation on the global front. ROTARY CLUB OF OAKVILLE TRAFALGAR (RCOT) The idea of service is the key to understanding Rotary, the first Service Club. To recognize the importance of service, clubs present Paul Harris Awards Harris founded Rotary to individuals in Rotary and the community, who, through service, have made a positive contribution to those in need locally and worldwide. For each award presented, $1,000 US is deposited in the Rotary Foundation. Thus the recognition of service through the Awards also contributes to Rotary's worldwide service work. The Rotary Club of Oakville Trafalgar, at a November 15th special dinner, is presenting 15 awards to people who reflect Rotary's motto, Service above Self. ROTARY CLUB OF OAKVILLE (RCO) The Iroquois Shoreline Woods Park is a strategic woodlot in our community. In 2000, this park had most of its 5,000 oak trees killed by the disease "Oak Decline" and subsequently removed. Oakville implemented a forest management plan including a series of 9 oak "prime sites." On Saturday, October 27, the Rotary Club of Oakville will be planting new trees ("whips") in one of these areas. The Town provides the trees and RCO provides the labour to plant, mulch and water the new trees. Approximately 25 Rotarians, Rotaractors, and Interactors will be out for the day to help re-forest the park. November 3-17, 2012 www.RotaryAuctions.ca "Help us help others" 2012 Online Auction EXPERIENCE ROTARY September 30 through October 27, Rotary International District 7080 (South Central Ontario) hosts a visiting delegation from District 4640 (Brazil). The Group Study Exchange is an educational program of The Rotary Foundation wherein Rotary districts in different countries are paired to send and receive professional study groups of non-Rotarian team members and one Rotarian team leader to travel for four to six weeks, staying in the homes of Rotarians when possible. The program is designed to develop professional and leadership skills among young adults so that they can address the needs of their communities and an increasingly global workplace. GSE participants follow an extensive and rigorous program of international travel and team activities and the week of October 15-19 had the four Brazilians visiting the Oakville area. The three Oakville Rotary Clubs were host to our South American visitors, providing opportunities for our foreign guests to experience Oakville's hospitality, local industry, flourishing business, retail establishments and educational institutes. In the spring of 2013, a delegation from Ontario will travel to Brazil to complete the Group Study Exchange program between our two districts.
