www.insideHALTON.com · OAKVILLE BEAVER Wednesday, October 24, 2012 · 10 Continued from page 1 Standing up for the future of the province who kept the pressure on this Liberal government and we need to do this until the next provincial election and make sure that people like Kevin Flynn and his Liberal colleagues need to look for a new job after the next election," he said. In past statements, Flynn said the government is responsible for negotiating contracts with its employees. However, when it appears one side is not negotiating, which he said happened as one of the unions stopped coming to the bargaining table, then the courts support the government to impose an agreement, which is what the government did with Bill 115. "Given the dire financial straits the world is in -- Ontario is doing very well -- we want to continue to do well. So we imposed an agreement," he said. Flynn called it a reasonable agree- that he's proud to see all the unions united together in this fight at every rally he visits. "Kudos to you and every other teacher and support worker across this province and our colleagues ment, one that is similar to the one signed by OECTA. "We built the best public education system in the English-speaking world, our teachers are the highest paid in all of Canada, and yet we found something to argue about," he said. "Adding more parking spaces is one of the best ways to encourage local commuters to take GO Transit," said Flynn. "That's why, since 2003, more than 3,000 parking spaces have been added to the Oakville and Bronte GO Stations, to make it easier for commuters to get to work, school and appointments. Better public transit means a better quality of life for Oakville families." Flynn said other GO Transit improvements the Province has invested in include the construction of a third rail in Oakville to reduce delays and the introduction of cleaner, longer trains to carry more passengers. Additional improvements will take place later this year, he said, as GO Train customers begin receiving reimbursement for the fare they have paid on train delays that are 15 minutes or longer and are within GO's control. GO Transit is also continuing its initiative to bring service every 15 minutes during rush hour and every 30 minutes during non-rush hour times to the Lakeshore West line. During a recent visit to Oakville, Progressive Conservative Leader Tim Hudak talked about the need for an integrated transportation plan to coordinate both public transit and highways and eliminate gridlock. This plan calls for one agency (Metrolinx) to be given responsibility for dealing with gridlock. When finances are available, the plan calls for expansion and investment in new highway and transit projects and the integration of regionally important assets within the GTHA (e.g. Hwy. 401 and the Gardiner Expressway). This Oakville GO Station parking garage project is funded through the GO Transit Improvement Program, a $500million joint investment announced by Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Premier Dalton McGuinty on February 17, 2009. Federal officials said the construction of the parking garage created 400 jobs.
