www.insideHALTON.com · OAKVILLE BEAVER Friday, October 19, 2012 · 12 Enriching education for many Continued from page 11 The HLF is a vital source of funding for enriched learning opportunities for students, and funds are used to purchase teaching resources and equipment and fund education programs and experiences in these areas, said Pat Wright, HLF's executive director. Through the foundation's Barriers to Learning Fund, some BCP students have even been outfitted with the necessary outdoor clothing to participate safely, said Schnurr. Class size is anywhere from 20-23 students and typically, students begin the application process in December or January for the following year. The typical BCP student profile would be a student who is a leader or has leadership potential, who is passionate about the environment, and wants to learn in an outdoor learning setting. "And who likes to be part of a community because we have a really tight community within the program itself," continued Schnurr. "Or students who may not necessarily be leaders in their own school but have a lot of potential for that in the right environment." The BCP offers a similar program for Grade 10 students called Trailhead, the only regional program within the board available for students in this age group. "It's two different classes, but they both operate in the same building, and they have the same value and philosophy, they just have a slightly different credit package." HLF will celebrate the magic of giving with its Do You Believe in Magic? fundraising dinner Nov. 1 at the Oakville Conference Centre beginning with a reception at 5:30 p.m. The evening will feature professional magician, speaker and writer, Rick Rossini. There will also be a silent auction and raffles. Individual tickets may be purchased for $125, or $800 for a table of eight, through the website, www. haltonlearningfoundation.ca. Sponsors for the evening include presenting sponsor RBC, Cogeco and Metroland Media, Scotiabank, TD, The Centre for Skills Development and Training and US Local 67.
