"I want it to be spooky, but not scary," said Wirtz. "It's for the kids, so I don't want to make it too scary because I don't want them to run away." Wirtz said his goal is to give the children who visit his home a great Halloween experience so they will be inspired to carry on the tradition as they grow up. Wirtz thought Solingate Drive was sadly lacking in Halloween spirit before he began setting up his annual attraction. Nineteen years later, he remains worried about Halloween's future. "I don't want to see Halloween die off," he said. "To see those little pumpkins come up the stairs with their little costumes on is just so cool."
