It was just days after The Oakville Chico made it `home' on Thanksgiving Day Beaver carried a story and photo of the little dog who'd escaped his run at the Cornwall Road animal shelter where he'd been housed one Friday evening. According to Brenda Dushko, spokesperson for the Oakville & Milton Humane Society (OMHS), a call came in from a member of the public at approximately 5 p.m. Monday of a dog matching Chico's description. The caller reported the pooch had been seen at the rear of a building on Cornwall Road. Power plant cancellations set to be investigated The Ontario Progressive Conservative (PC) Party announced late last week (Thursday) it plans to call Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty and a number of other high-ranking Liberals as witnesses during an investigation into the scrapping of the Oakville and Mississauga power plants. Opposition MPPs used their majority in the legislature to push through a motion to probe the expensive cancellations, which will cost taxpayers at least $230 million ($40 million for the Oakville plant and $190 million for the Mississauga plant). The Legislature's finance committee will undertake the investigation. The PCs say the 900-megawatt gasfired power plant proposed for the Fordowned lands of 1500 Royal Windsor Dr. and the proposed 280-megawatt Sherway Gardens power plant in Mississauga were cancelled to save Liberal MPP seats during the 2011 provincial election. At the time of the Oakville power plant's cancellation, then Energy Minister Brad Duguid stated in putting together its Long-term Energy Plan, it became clear the Province no longer needed the power plant. This debate on why the power plants were cancelled and how much these cancellations cost taxpayers escalated over the delayed release of 36,000 pages of documents related to the subject. While Energy Minister Chris Bentley handed over the thousands of documents on Sept. 24, the Tories and New Democrats believe 2,000 pages have been redacted.
