Oakville Horticultural Society awarded for garden The Oakville Horticultural Society has been awarded with the 2012 Community Improvement Award for its work in renewing the Anderson Bridge Parkette. TheawardcamefromtheOntarioHorticultural Association (OHA), presented at the 106th OHA Convention in Niagara-on-the-Lake on Aug. 18. The local horticultural society planned, fundraised and worked on renewing the parkette. It created a water-efficient garden, designed to provide year-round beauty while supporting pollinators and area wildlife. The project's spring planting began in 2011. This year, the Town of Oakville installed a new pathway made of permeable paving materials (recycled glass) to reduce storm water runoff and conserve resources. The garden, called A Garden for Life, will officially open on Sept. 15.
