McLellan and the Burlington-based NEXXICE synchronized skating team she manages earned silver at the ISU senior world championships, McLellan's second world championship medal (gold in 2009). But perhaps more to meaningful McLellan was the Spirit Award she received from the NEXXICE team, recFran McLellan ognizing her longterm commitment and support for the squad. "The skaters are wonderful and I feel that every day spent with them is reward enough for me," McLellan said, "but it is also delightful that they noticed the work that gets done behind the scenes." McLellan's daughter, Leanne, was the first captain of the NEXXICE senior team. The NEXXICE seniors also won their sixth consecutive national championship in Windsor, claimed gold at the first-ever ISU Synchrofest Competition in London, Ont., and collected bronze at the Mozart Cup in Salzburg, Austria. "The team is comprised by skaters from so many places, and it's amazing to see how they excel in creating such beautiful skating under Shelley Barnett and Anne Schelter's coaching direction." Skate Oakville (formerly the Oakville Skating Club) has been McLellan's home club since 1970. She served on the board in many capacities, including Ice Show chair, secretary and president. She was also the manager of the Oakville Ice Expression senior team. In 1998, McLellan founded Mississauga Ice Precise in an effort to continue "precision skating", as it was known then, with other adults. In addition to providing financial management for the NEXXICE senior team since 2003, McLellan also directed the funds for the NEXXICE Gala of Synchronized Skating and has been instrumental in turning the event into a large fundraiser for NEXXICE teams. Over the past year, her vision helped the club's fundraising activities be directed on breast cancer research.
