Senior stars show off their talents at Chartwell Classic It was all fun and games at a recent Senior Star competition, but there could only be one winner. Burlington resident Tom Sutherland was crowned as the regional champion of the Senior Star competition, hosted by Chartwell Classic Oakville. Oakville resident Carolynn Booth was runner-up. Steve Vaughan came in third. Senior Star is Canada's largest talent contest dedicated to seniors. It is open to all Canadians aged 65 years or older in a singing and instrument playing competition. The top two winners of the regional competition get consideration to be invited to Chartwell's Senior Star National Final, which will be held on Nov. 19 in Niagara Falls. A panel of judges chose the winners at the local competition and each performance was videotaped. The videos of the top two performers will be sent to the national orga- nization and the top 10 contestants nationally will be invited to participate live at the final. Now in its sixth year, Senior Star is put on by Chartwell Seniors Housing REIT, which owns and manages retirement residences and long-term care homes across Canada. Art at home Artist social at Sovereign House Sovereign House is hosting a social gathering for artists on Sunday (July 8). The social/open house is part of the Arts on the Bluffs program. Its aim is to bring together artists and other members of the community to meet and network. The event runs from 2-4 p.m. The venue is located at 7 West River St. in Bronte.
