Artisan Alley will feature the arts and crafts of local artists. Information booths will be hosted by Halton Regional Police Service, Halton EMS, the local chapter of the MS Society and the YMCA. In addition to a beer tent, the entire venue will be licensed for liquor so people will be able to buy drinks at satellite stations and carry alcohol around the ribfest area. Fifteen musical groups will perform live on stage. "There are two groups that are from Toronto, but the rest are local," Peden said. There will be jazz, blues, folk, rock, classic rock and barbershop music presented by such bands as Nitrik, Raising Atlantis, Jordan John and the Blues Angels, The Stingrays and Stereo Kid. The Saturday headliner will be rockers The Kings, known for the hit Beat Goes On/Switchin' To Glide. Amid all the fun and games, Sheridan College will showcase some of its award-winning programming. Sheridan Theatre students will do a portion of their Rent performance from 5-6 p.m. on the Saturday of the event. Sheridan's animation faculty will provide guided tours of its facilities and showcase some student films from the past few years. The arts faculty will have a display of the works of students and alumni. "It's unbelievably beautiful," Peden said of the art. "In the president's office, there's some of the blown glass and it's just beautiful." This is just one of many fundraising events held by the Rotary Club each year, which raises money for local organizations. The club will have a display of some of its activities, too. "We have myriad things that we do. We will have a rotary tent displayed at ribfest that outlines all the things that we do. In fact, we'll have one of our big dragon boats there," said Peden. Following the Rent performance, an opening ceremony will feature a panel of celebrity judges voting for their favourite ribs. Sure, a rack can pack those calories, but the organizers have that covered. In between band sets on Saturday, One Health Clubs will lead a Zumba workout. "It's kind of like the seventh-inning stretch at a baseball game while they're changing bands," Peden said. "Anyone who wants to put down their pop and join in the Zumba, they can." A large festival that aims to attract 30,000 visitors over three days will come with some parking baggage. However, the Rotarians have it covered. There will be on-site parking. Additionally, free shuttle bus service will take people to and from the Oakville GO stations, with buses running every 15 minutes. There's also overflow parking at the municipal parking lot on Trafalgar Road, a 900-metre walk to the ribfest location. For those who choose to ride their bikes, there will also be a bike valet service provided by the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Halton (BBBS). Bike check proceeds will support BBBS. Admission is free. Rotary will also accept donations at the gate.
