It's tough being a teenager today Continued from page 13 19 · Wednesday, June 6, 2012 OAKVILLE BEAVER · www.insideHALTON.com them off the street. "Everything in the charity relates back to Drew. (He) really had a love of music and arts -- everything comes right down to his favourite colours. That's why we're doing the program," said Evershed. "It's a lot of money to put kids through these programs, so we want to give them a challenge, new interests and a new outlook." Evershed said half of the applications come from youth who've dealt with abuse while a "good percentage" comes from those with drug addictions. The race is one of three events the DHTBF will hold this year to raise money to help at-risk teens. It received an Ontario Trillium Foundation grant last year to expand the organization. "We have amazing community support from Halton and Peel. We get overwhelmed with kids who want to come and volunteer at our events. Hopefully, we can stop what's going on out there and help kids make better choices," said Evershed. "So many kids (have) low self-esteem and... don't know where to go. It's tough being a teenager." The event will be held at Coronation Park on Sunday (June 10). The park is located at 1462 Lakeshore Rd. W. Onsite registration is from 8-9:30 a.m. A free half-hour yoga warm-up starts at 9 a.m. The race begins at 10 a.m. Registration fees are $45 for the 10K run and $35 for the 5K run/walk. Students 18 and under pay $20 for either race. To register or for more information, visit www. dhtbf.com.
