Annual Police Day Saturday in Oakville The Halton Regional Police Service is inviting residents to the 13th annual Police Day Saturday, May 12, at police headquarters in Oakville The celebration of policing in Halton will take place at 1151 Bronte Rd. from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., rain or shine with both indoor and outdoor venues offered. The event, themed Policing a Diverse and Inclusive Community, will see demonstrations from the Halton Police Tactical Rescue Unit, K-9 unit, and from the unmanned aerial vehicle used by the Halton Police Forensic Identification Unit. The Halton Police Training Unit will also host a display. Young children will be able to visit the Children's Safety Village where they can try driving on a closed course while being taught important safety tips. Residents can also learn about many of the internal policing units that make up the Halton Regional Police Service and visit displays highlighting their partnership with Halton's diverse community. Those who attend the Police Day celebrations at 10 a.m., will see opening ceremonies and hear the Police Pipes and Drums, and Police Chorus. A celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Ontario will take place at 12:15 p.m., featuring a mini torch run. Lick's Restaurant will provide a barbecue including Halal and vegetarian products with some of the proceeds going to Ontario Special Olympics. Family fun features include: magic, juggling, face painting, balloons, clowns and a giant inflatable slide. An aboriginal drum circle will signal the end of the day's events. Police ask visitors not to bring their pets. Members of the police service will be on hand to offer interpretation in 15 languages, such as Punjabi, Hindi, Urdu, Arabic, French, Greek, Italian, Hungarian, Polish, German, Asyrian, Portuguese, Tamil, Russian and American Sign Language.
