"The police were on it for about a month; they couldn't find him. We hired a private investigator. He was on it for about six months and then he called me and said, `I've stopped charging you because I can't find anything. Usually with a missing person I find something, but with your son, David, I can find nothing.'" John said there was no indication David took any of his belongings as all of his possessions were still at his residence. His bank account has showed no activity since his disappearance. "It's like he just disappeared into thin air," said John. "He just vanished." Lusia Dion of Ontario Missing Adults contacted Sue and John shortly after David's disappearance, placing information about David online and has kept in touch with them ever since. Sue said they attended the vigil as a means of connecting with other people who have gone through the same thing she and John have experienced. "There is no support for the parents of missing adults. There is no support at all," she said. "This is helpful because really, who do you know who has a missing child?" During his remarks at the event Halton Deputy Police Chief Bob Percy said in Halton there are seven outstanding cases of missing adults dating back to 1982. Finding these missing people and all the others, he said, requires help not only from the police, but from the media and members of the public. Halton Region Crime Stoppers Chair Gary McLean called on members of the public who know anything to contact Crime Stoppers as the service allows them to do so anonymously. "People don't need to feel they need to crack the case. Maybe they just noticed something that was a little unusual or a little troubling to them," said McLean. "Through Crime Stoppers they can provide information and they don't have to file a police report or be concerned about appearing in court or worry about a police car in their driveway." Following the presentations the families of the missing took a candle and observed 30 seconds of silence. "There was something my son used to say that's always in my head," said Joly, after lighting a candle and passing it to another family. "Before he would leave wherever he was he would say, `Lots of light to you. Sleep well.' That was his favourite saying. When I see candles, when I see flames that kind of just reminds me of my son."
