Town earns cash for going green at Town Hall Oakville Hydro presented the Town of Oakville with a $36,816 cheque Monday, in recognition of the Town's work to improve energy efficiency at Town Hall. Recent energy efficiency projects undertaken at Town Hall have included the replacement of a 30-year-old chiller (a machine that cools liquid so it can be circulated through a heat exchanger to cool air or equipment) and the upgrading of the Building Automation System (BAS). These projects were enough to make the Town eligible for incentives through the Ontario Power Authority's (OPA) custom program. "The Town has partnered with Oakville Hydro on a number of energy conservation initiatives to ensure we are realizing maximum energy efficiencies in all our buildings," said Oakville Mayor Rob Burton. "Conserving energy today is not only beneficial to our bottom line, but to our environment and community as a whole." The new chiller and BAS were integrated into Town Hall last spring and both were fully functional last summer. Following the installations, Town Hall's energy information was collected to determine the energy savings from the new system and to determine how much incentive cash the Town would receive. "It was determined that the facility's summer demand savings with the new chiller and building automation system was 55 kilowatts, with an energy savings of 35,033 kWh this past summer," said Rob Lister, president and CEO of Oakville Hydro. "We're very proud of the work done by all involved in this worthy conservation project." In addition to the incentive given to the Town, the upgrades have also contributed to Oakville Hydro's targets for peak demand and energy savings. Oakville Hydro and the Town of Oakville are encouraging all residents to learn how they can conserve energy. For information, visit www.oakvillehydro. com and click on the Conservation banner. The bylaw, which takes effect immediately, comes after public feedback was gathered late last year, including at two public meetings. "As a lakeside community, our harbours are valuable assets," said Oakville Mayor Rob Burton. "They play a key role in our history and heritage, connecting residents to the waterfront. In many ways, the harbours are a symbol of the town. It is important that we keep them safe and protect them for the future." The new bylaw provides clear written fo `Lik r e $2 a C ' U 5 ha s a Gi n nd ft ce E Ce to nt rti W er fic IN at a e! BODY BUSTER FITNESS BOOTCAMP ® documentation for all harbour users. The Town of Oakville's Parks and Open Space department, through its Harbours Section, operates Oakville Harbour on Sixteen Mile Creek and Bronte Harbour on Twelve Mile Creek.
