A handful of Second Street residents attended a committee meeting last Tuesday morning, in a bid to stop Gren Weis Architect and Associates from building an addition on 50 Second St., and carrying out restoration work, which they said is not reflective of either the heritage home nor the heritage district it is in. "We are here to object strenuously to the proposed addition at 50 Second St. Our remarks are not personal in any way and should be viewed as objections to what we believe are unauthorized changes in the Town's interpretation of our heritage district plan," said Denis Bastien, Second Street resident and a local real estate appraiser. "We are outraged that the current proposal for 50 Second St., clearly attempts to disguise a historic building and strip it of its charm and character in order to build a contemporary addition. This proposal clearly is not in keeping with the spirit or intent of either the provincial or district heritage plans." Residents took issue with the fact the addition is larger than the heritage home and proposed changes to the roof and some of the home's windows. "The proposed addition is described by the Town in the report as contemporary and modern," said Bastien.
