Brown (905) 842-8030 EATON, David M (Retired General Secretar y for the Ontario Secondar y School Teachers' Federation and Secretary General for the Canadian Teachers' Federation) David Murray Eaton, who died peacefully at his Oakville home on Wednesday, February 15th, at the age of 75, was widely known and respected across Canada and North America as the General Secretary for the Ontario Secondary School Teachers' Federation (1987-1995) and later Secretary General for the Canadian Teachers' Federation (1999-2000). His passing, while in the care of his loving wife of 51 years, came less than two months after he was diagnosed with aggressive prostate cancer. Son of the late William and Daisy Eaton (Bell); brother to the late Campbell, Bill and Doug Eaton. A caring father, leaves behind his wife, Audrey, two sons, Kenneth (BJ Andrews) and Murray (Janice), a daughter, Susan Bruce (Robert), siblings Helen Smith, Alistair Eaton and Daisy Delong and 13 grandchildren: Alicia, Mackenzie, Brittany, Kendra (Eaton), Jessica, Sean, Mark, Sarah, Rachael (Bruce), Tyron, Kiefer, Keegan, Liam (Eaton) and several great grand children, Eric, Avery and Cadence. Just two months before his own death, the Eaton's lost their granddaughter Jessica, a great tragedy for them. He will be sadly missed by many good friends, family and his most loyal friend Labradoodle, Ben. David Eaton will be remembered by all as a proud Newfoundlander whose laid-back manner masked a razor sharp mind, unerring political instincts and his own unique brand of people skills. Throughout his entire career, his name was synonymous with integrity and personal honesty. David graduated from the University of Windsor and earned his Master's degree at the University of Toronto. His first job, with Shell Canada in Toronto, led him to meet his future wife, Audrey Scanlan. In 1961, he began teaching for the North York Board of Education. In 1968, he joined the provincial office of OSSTF and was promoted to General Secretary in June, 1987. After retiring in 1995 he served as Secretary General for CTF in 1999-2000. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 24, 2012 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Kopriva Taylor Community Funeral Home, 64 Lakeshore Rd. W, (one block east of Kerr St. 905-844-2600) Oakville, L6K 1E1. She would have celebrated her 89th year in April. She is predeceased by her loving husband Joseph (1974) and her infant son Chester (1947), also brothers Joseph, Benedyk, Edward and sister Zosia Korzeniowski. Loving mother of Lorraine Koson (Burlington) and grandmother to Richard (Michelle) Koson and Krystine Koson. She will also be sadly missed by many nieces and nephews in England and Poland. Born and raised in Poland. Immigrated in 1939, where she met and married her soul mate, Joseph F i l i p e k . S e t t l i n g i n W i n d s o r, Ontario, establishing their home and life until 1963, when they moved to Oakville. Velda was very active in the Polish community, both in Windsor and in Oakville. She was always available to help out with charity functions. Special thanks to staff and nurses at Maple Villa, also the care givers who gave exceptional care. Velda was a lady of high values and strong commitments, always available to help family and friends. Cremation has taken place, no visitation. A Funeral Mass was held on February 21st, 2012, at 1pm at St Patrick's Parish (196 Kenwood Ave, Burlington, Ontario).
