Musician hopes `biographical' CD will result in a tour early this year Continued from page 16 Hospitality expert to speak at Canadian Club dinner The Canadian Club of Halton Peel is hosting a speaker who has worked in the hospitality industry since his youth in post-war Germany. Hans Gerhardt will be the keynote presenter at the club's dinner speaker event at the Oakville Conference Centre on Thursday, Jan. 19. At the age of 15, Gerhardt was working on ocean freighters as a cabin boy but decided to pursue safer employment. He began working in the European hospitality industry and later, with his wife, immigrated to Toronto. He began working as a waiter, then became a Maitre d', then a director of catering, and then managing director of Sutton Place Hotel, then vice-president of operations at the Old Mill and then president and CEP of RHK Hotel Division with properties in Canada, Jamaica and the Bahamas. The conference centre is located at the QEW and Bronte Road. Registration and cash bar opens at 6 p.m. with dinner at 7 p.m. The three-course dinner costs $35 for members, $45 for non-members and $15 for students. "We called in a lot of other people. The guitars, for example, on the record were all done in England," Zaltz said. Mishnaevski also plays an untraditional viola on the CD. "The instrument he actually plays on the CD is a five-string electric viola," Zaltz said. "It's the four strings of the viola and the fifth string is into the violin range. The instrument actually goes from the lowest of the viola register way up to the violin. In terms of composition, the sky is the limit." Zaltz composed and played the piano on the mostly-instrumental CD. Two tracks feature vocals, one with Zaltz singing and the other by Saidah Baba Talibah. "The record is a story," Zaltz "The record is a story. The story is life. It's from the beginning to now. Certainly, a huge portion of that, as a composer, comes from my brain and a lot of it is, I would say, biographical." Stuart Zaltz, musician Two Circles Music Company said. "The story is life. It's from the beginning to now. Certainly, a huge portion of that, as a composer, comes from my brain and a lot of it is, I would say, biographical." Though the CD took two years to complete from inception to finish, the goal for this release is to go beyond that. "The intent has always been to tour," Zaltz said. "That is why we did this in the beginning. Records are records and you need them because that's part of it, but the big thing for us is to get out and play." Zaltz said the group intends to tour by early 2012. To learn more on the group or to purchase a CD, visit www. twocirclesmusicco.com.
