However, the Devils' Cinderella run at the tournament came to an end in the final as they were edged 4-3 by the Kingston Knights in a shootout. The Devils led the championship game, taking a 3-2 lead with six minutes remaining but Kingston battled back to square things up with two minutes to play. The teams played two overtime periods, three minutes of four-on-four and two minutes of three-on-three, before finally settling the title in a shootout. Oakville went 3-0 in round-robin play and outscored its opponents 17-3. The Devils narrowly earned a bye to the semifinals with a goals-for/goals-against average that was 0.002 better than one of their rivals.
