Blades teaming with Rangers, Hornets in street hockey tourney The Oakville Blades will trade their skates for sneakers on Sunday as the junior A hockey team plays in the second annual Whole Foods street hockey tournament and BBQ fundraiser at the store's Oakville location. The Blades roster will split into two teams; each team will be bolstered with recruits from the Oakville Hornets novice A team and the Minor Oaks Hockey Association's minor peewee AE Rangers. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The teams will take turns playing road hockey in Whole Foods' west parking lot at 301 Cornwall Rd., then serving up burgers and hot dogs at the BBQ and bagging groceries. "It's a great day all about family and community," said Joe Laise, the Blades' vice president. "It's just good, clean Canadian fun and that's the part I really do enjoy, just kids having a good time and cheering each other on." Bandit, the Blades' mascot, will be on hand to meet shoppers and pose for photos, and all of the Blades players will be available to greet fans. "Our team loves being out in front of the community like this, and kids get a thrill from meeting the Blades and playing with them," said Laise. "It underlines our club's commitment to be a part of the community." Whole Foods' community relations spokesperson France Fournier said the grocery chain recognizes the Blades' commitment to community and wanted to help boost the hockey club's profile in Oakville after it moved to the larger Sixteen Mile Sports Complex in 2010. "Whole Foods is a community-oriented organization and we recognized that this is a hockey team that does a lot for the community," said Fournier. "We wanted to connect so that we could build a relationship." The Blades, founded in 1966, have won the Central Canadian junior A hockey championship twice since 2008 while earning four straight trips to the Ontario Junior Hockey League finals. Over the years, the Blades have helped dozens of players achieve their dream of playing NCAA, CIS and CHL hockey. 39 · Friday, October 21, 2011 OAKVILLE BEAVER · www.insideHALTON.com Everything You Need Under Your Roof ! 1 3 2 4 1 HOME IMPROVEMENT 2 SCREENS CONSTRUCTION Dry rywall specialty Remodel your shower/ r bat ah enclosure r s eg: tiling Install cabinetry r & more r Quick, pre r cise completion of all jobs Rat a e is the best bar none Complete basement re r no's (established connections with people in all trades) s OVER PHONE PRICING LOOKING FOR Soften That Spot A WAY TO Local Serving Oakville & Surrounding Area BOOST YOUR for over 20 years WSIB Insured BUSINESS? www.softenthatspot.com 3 WINDOWS/EAVES A MOBILE SCREEN SERVICE Wizard Retractable Screen Doors ~~~~ Over Night Security Screen Doors ~~~~ Window and Door Screen Repairs ~~~~ Pet Screen Installed ~~~~ Patio Screen Enclosures, etc ~~~~ For Free Estimates Call 905-338-8942 4 FLOORING/RENO "Refinish Your Wood Floor Like New" We install all Kinds of Floors, Stairs and Railings WOOD N' FLOOR W CALL NOW AND THIS SPOT CAN BE YOURS!
