Mobile news apps for The Oakville Beaver, Burlington Post, Milton Canadian Champion and Oakville Today are available for download across multiple platforms, including Blackberry, iPhone, Nokia, Windows Phone and Android -- the Flamborough Review app will be available within the next month. "It's great given the scale of this project that we've been able to pull all the content together," said John Futhey, Metroland's managing director of digital content. "The new apps offer our readers another channel, another way of receiving our information, as well as gives us the opportunity to learn how people (in the community) digest our content." The new app will offer readers a comprehensive set of local news and information right on their mobile phones -- users will get to see the top level news categories regularly seen on the InsideHalton website, as well as videos and photos, Futhey said. Polar Mobile announced in July its plans to launch over 500 mobile apps with Metroland Media for 104 local community newspapers, including all of Halton region's newspapers, across smartphone and tablet devices. Polar Mobile's SMART Platform powers more than 1,000 mobile apps across iPhone, BlackBerry, Android and Windows Phone smartphones for more than 300 publishers in 10 countries, including Condé Nast, Rogers Media, Khaleej Times, Digital Journal and Pro Football Weekly. Metroland is Canada's largest community newspaper publisher with a combined distribution of five million copies per week across all of its community newspapers. The Regional Municipality of Halton www.halton.ca NOTICE OF COMPLETION Transportation Master Plan to 2031 - The Road to Change PR-2414 Background Halton Region has completed a Transportation Master Plan ­ The Road to Change to develop a sustainable and integrated transportation plan that considers all modes of travel (automobiles, transit, cycling and walking) to the year 2031. The Transportation Master Plan was conducted in accordance with the master planning process following the requirements of Phases 1 and 2 of the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment process (October 2000, as amended 2007) which is an approved process under the Ontario Environmental Assessment Act. The Process The Transportation Master Plan provides the Region with the strategies and tools needed to manage traffic safely, y effectively, y and cost efficiently. This plan offers a range of transportation choices to meet the needs of Halton residents through Active Transportation, Transportation Demand Management and infrastructure related improvements. A key outcome of the study is a list of transportation projects that the Region can incorporate into its 20-year Roads Capital Program. The Transportation Master Plan incorporates public, local municipal and agency comments received during the course of the study. While the Transportation Master Plan addresses need and justification at the broad level, more detailed studies for Schedule C projects included in the Transportation Master Plan will be completed in subsequent studies as per the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment process.
