Karen Brock, president Oakvillegreen If we had, without power, there was a real risk that the boat could crash in to the rocks west of Bronte Harbour. The crew received word that another nearby boat had responded to the kayaker and he had been rescued. The rescued boaters we were towing could not have been more grateful. They commented on the rapid response, friendly and professional service they received, and their complete relief when they saw TOWARF coming to the rescue. We safely towed the boat into the harbour, and then returned to the TOWARF home base at Oakville Harbour. Our half hour demonstration had turned in to a three hour real-life rescue. It sure hit home that things can change very quickly on the water with serious consequences. TOWARF is a volunteer organization that receives funding for its operation from the boaters (through fees charged by the Town of Oakville). The volunteers buy their own uniforms and put their own money into an organization to which they are deeply committed. Following my adventure on the waters of Lake Ontario, I came away with a much deeper respect for the men and women of TOWARF, and the service they provide. The Transportation Master Plan was conducted in accordance with the master planning process following the requirements of Phases 1 and 2 of the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment process (October 2000, as amended 2007) which is an approved process under the Ontario Environmental Assessment Act. The Process The Transportation Master Plan provides the Region with the strategies and tools needed to manage traffic safely, y effectively, y and cost efficiently. This plan offers a range of transportation choices to meet the needs of Halton residents through Active Transportation, Transportation Demand Management and infrastructure related improvements. A key outcome of the study is a list of transportation projects that the Region can incorporate into its 20-year Roads Capital Program. The Transportation Master Plan incorporates public, local municipal and agency comments received during the course of the study. While the Transportation Master Plan addresses need and justification at the broad level, more detailed studies for Schedule C projects included in the Transportation Master Plan will be completed in subsequent studies as per the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment process.
