Oakville PC candidate Larry Scott and PC Critic for Revenue and Government Accountability Lisa MacLeod, braved Tuesdays rainy weather to slam the McGuinty govern- ment for altering the Samsung deal so that a new PC government would not be able to get rid of it without a penalty after being elected. Under the old deal, the Korean industrial giant would receive $437 million in incentive payments over 20 years to develop 1,000 megawatts worth of green energy projects in Ontario. MacLeod said the original deal gave Ontario the option of terminating the agreement with- out penalty if Samsung was unable to fulfill this contractual obligation by Jan. 20, 2012- three months after the next provincial elec- tion. The new deal, she said, has been amended giving Samsung an extra year to complete this work. In exchange for the delay, Ontarios incentive payments have dropped to a maximum of $110 million. The time change effectively throws a wrench into PC plans to scrap the deal, if elected. Instead of letting Ontario families have their say on his expensive energy experiments the tax man once again thumbed his nose at them and made the sweetheart Samsung deal even sweeter, said MacLeod. We learned this week that Ontario families could have walked away from untendered sweetheart Samsung deal four months after the next elec- tion. This is a direct contradic- tion to what Brad Duguid (Energy Minister) said earlier this year when he misled vot- ers and said it would cost too much to get out of Dalton McGuintys sweetheart Samsung deal. Scott said on election day Oakville residents will have a clear choice. This really shows us the arrogance and how out of touch Dalton McGuinty has become with ordinary families. Instead of letting Ontario families decide, he is secretly moving ahead to lock in this deal. Its time for change, Ontario fami- lies deserve better, said Scott. Tim Hudak will give Ontario families a break. Dalton McGuinty has been thumbing his nose at Ontario families this week. On Oct. 6, Ontario families can stick it to Dalton McGuinty and vote for change. MacLeod and Scott also attacked the McGuinty gov- ernments energy policy stat- ing that under Dalton McGuinty hydro rates have skyrocketed by 84 per cent or 150 per cent if a homeowner now has a new smart meter. They also said annual elec- tricity bills are expected to increase by $732 over the next four years as a result of McGuintys HST, smart meter implementation, and other rate increases.
