TigerTel raising money for a good cause For the fifth year TigerTel employees, family and friends are coming together to participate in an action packed day of spirited competition at the 2010 Oakville Charity Dragon Boat Festival. Once again our team, the Blue Tigers is fundraising in aid of the Halton Childrens Aid Society and the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. All of the TigerTel locations, thirteen in all, take part in fundraising for this event; its a wonderful way to connect our employees from coast to coast. This year, we have set a fundraising goal that we fully anticipate exceeding. We are proud to be a part of this event, knowing that we are helping to ensure that the many invaluable programs provided by the Halton Childrens Aid Society and the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation are continued. The exciting Seventh Annual TigerTel Oakville Charity Dragon Boat Festival takes place Sunday, August 14, 2011, at Kelso Conservation Park. It's an action-packed day with 50 teams both local and out-of-town, competing. Along with the spirited competitions, the festival is one big party, offering lots of choices to have fun outdoors, vendors with a wide selection of food and beverages, a beer garden for thirsty paddlers and their supporters, prizes, and musical entertainment. Last year, about 1,200 people participated in or attended the Festival, which is presented annually by the Rotary Club of Oakville Trafalgar (RCOT) as a fundraiser for various charitable organizations. Significantly, a full 100 per cent of the funds raised at this event go to charities supported by Rotary. This years Festival sponsors include three Oakville-based businesses. The Title Sponsor is TigerTel, which provides award-winning, outsourced call centre and contact management services across North America. TigerTel is joined by two Silver Sponsors: The Co-operators, which provides financial security for Canadians, and The Sign Department, which creates customized signage for any message. This year's Bronze Sponsor is Bruce Owen-Wahl of CIBC Wood Gundy. Proceeds from this year's event will be donated to the Halton Childrens Aid Society, as well as other charities supported by the Rotary Club of Oakville Trafalgar. Rotary is respected globally for its charity work, especially with children. From vaccinating the world's children against polio through its renowned Polio Plus program, to providing communities with clean water, Rotary sends volunteers into every corner of the world. Local Rotary clubs such as RCOT also support the needy right in our own community through a wide range of projects, such as running an annual Strawberry Social for elderly shut-ins to helping fund a bus for Halton's Alzheimer Day Program operated by Acclaim Health and much, much more. Dave Pecharich of RCOT, chair of the 2011 Festival organizing committee, says his club is extremely proud of the benefit resulting in the community directly from the funds raised. "It's also a tremendously fun event, so it's a win-win for everyone involved," he says. Last years Festival raised an impressive $50,000 for charity. That's a lot of paddle power! But we can't do it again without you. You can help by simply pledging to support a team. You can also put together some friends and colleagues, and come out and join the fun. Get complete details, along with pledging information, online at www.oakvilledragon.com, or call Christopher Paton at 905-399-1057. Good fun for a good cause nds for CAFH The Childrens Aid Foundation of Halton (CAFH) funds life changing programs for children who are receiving services from the Halton Childrens Aid Society. These children have experienced abuse, neglect or family trauma and are dealing with emotional challenges that no child should have to face. By providing opportunities for children to attend a variety of nurturing and motivating programs, leading to bursaries for post secondary education, CAFH is offering the tools for children in need to overcome their challenges, realize their dreams and become successful members of this community. To continue this great work, CAFH needs the support of this community. The Tigertel Oakville Dragon Boat Festival, organized by the Rotary Club of Oakville Trafalgar is a wonderful example of how residents of this community can pull together to help Haltons most vulnerable citizens. The Festival gives the Childrens Aid Foundation of Halton the chance to raise some much needed funds to keep the momentum of successful programs and sustain them for years to come. The Bursary program, for example, is having such an impact on young adults being raised in care. An increasing number of young people are applying for post secondary bursaries, they realize that pursuing an education gives them more choices in life and they can take control of their journey. A very special feature of the Tigertel Oakville Dragon Boat Festival is that it allows at least 20 of our very own youth the opportunity to enter a team and experience a great bonding moment. A few years ago at this event, members of the team won their first medals ever; they wore those medals for a week, including wearing them to bed and on parade at summer camp. Our young teens have some new words in their vocabulary that werent there a few years back, Winners, Success, Accomplishment and I remember what a fun day that was - a great childhood memory that they can share with everyone. This event exists because of the generous support of sponsors and volunteers. Thank you so much for creating such a memorable day for everyone at the Halton Childrens Aid Society and the Childrens Aid Foundation of Halton. Please support the Tigertel Oakville Dragon Boat Festival and join us on August 14th, 2011 to help support children and youth who are creating dreams and getting ready for success. Those interested in pledging can do so on-line at www.oakvilledragon. com. Please visit www.cafh.ca or www.oakvilledragon.com for more information.
