WOOD, Joan (nee Sheppard) Dear ly be loved w i fe o f Jack Wood, died peacefully on October 8th at the I a n A n d e r s o n H o u s e i n O a k v i l l e , Ontario. Joan was born and raised in N i a g a r a F a l l s , O n t a r i o , w h e r e s h e attended St. Patrick's School, Loretto A c a d e m y a n d N F C V I . S h e t h e n g r a d u a t e d f r o m t h e U n i v e r s i t y o f To r o n t o i n P h y s i o t h e r a p y. A f t e r graduat ion , she moved to Houston, T e x a s , t o h e l p d e v e l o p a P h y s i o t h e r a p y D e p a r t m e n t i n t h e new Houston Hospital. Houston sent he r to Los Ange les to t r a in i n the r ehab i l i t a t i on o f r e tu rn ing m i l i t a r y p e r s o n n e l , e s p e c i a l l y p a r a p l e g i c s . She returned from Houston to Niagara Fa l l s to head up the Phys io therapy Department of Niagara Falls Memorial Hospital in Niagara Fal ls, N.Y. Joan married Jack Wood in 1961 and later moved to Trinidad, W.I. , for 6 years. They returned to Canada and sett led in Oakville in 1969. Jack's work took him to many parts of the world and Joan accompan ied h im on most o f these trips. Joan became a volunteer with the Oakville Public Library, initially r e a d i n g f o r t h e " R a d i o R e a d i n g S e r v i c e f o r t h e b l i n d a n d p r i n t h a n d i c a p p e d " a t t h e W o o d s i d e Branch. Joan then delivered books to the shu t - ins and f ina l l y w i th Jack , sorted and packed discarded l ibrary books for what became the current C e n t r a l B r a n c h S e m i A n n u a l B o o k Sale. Joan is survived by her husband Jack , b ro the r John , b ro the r- i n - l aw J o h n B r o d e r i c k , Q . C . , a n d m a n y n i e c e s a n d n e p h e w s . J o a n w a s p r e d e c e a s e d b y h e r f a t h e r J o s e p h Sheppard, mother Marion, brother Jim, s i s te r He len Broder i ck and bro ther F rank .
