The blaze, which was set dur- ing the early morning hours of Saturday, Nov. 20, completely destroyed the unoccupied home and also damaged two neigh- bouring homes. Detective Constable Tim Nichols, of the Halton Police Fraud/Arson Unit, would not release details about how or where the fire was set in the house, but said the fire was clas- sified as an arson as a result of the findings of the Ontario Fire Marshal. Police say they are interview- ing many people in connection with the arson investigation, but have made no arrests at this time. The Oakville Fire Department said it took several hours to get the fire under control with around 36 firefighters initially responding to the blaze. Carol, who is actually from Owen Sound, spoke to the St. Dominic stu- dents after receiving a poster from them in the mail in which they offered their condolences for the loss of her son. For the past five years, St. Dominic teacher John MacPhail has tasked his history class with creating posters to recognize each of the 153 Canadian sol- diers killed in Afghanistan. These posters, which thank the sol- diers for their sacrifice, are then mailed to the soldiers families.
